? Guest Memo: The Broads of History ?

Guest Memo Alert! ICYMI, the Broad Room is hosting a series of networking events you won’t want to miss, featuring Broads doing work that should be on your radar. This week, our featured Broads to Watch are Kylie Holloway and Molly Gaebe. They're taking over to tell you more about Nevertheless She Existed, their podcast and live show based at Caveat in the Lower East Side.

We're Kylie & Molly, comedians and hosts of Nevertheless She Existed. Molly's an abortion doula, writer, and performer at Abortion Access Front. Kylie's the booking manager at Caveat, where she makes a living making funny things with smart people. Our podcast is the feminist history party we KNOW you’ve been waiting for. On each episode we explore a forgotten corner of women’s history—from a celestial celebration of bitches in space to a wickedly funny dive into the witches of yore—and bring the story of an erased woman from our LES speakeasy right to your earbuds. You'll hear tales of mothers, warriors, poets, gay nuns burned as witches, and the would-be first women in space. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll definitely say "f*ck yeah" because Nevertheless, She Existed.

Women’s stories have been erased for millennia and this crisis of disappearance is still happening today. In 2017, the National Women’s History Museum released a report titled “ Where Are the Women?” on the status of women in state social studies standards and IT. WAS. BLEAK. The report found that 178 women are named in state standards, in stark contrast with the 559 male historical figures. That’s a 1 to 3 ratio—worse than the tech company holiday party Kylie went to that time she dated a UX developer. In case you’re not pissed yet, of those 178 women, 63% are white and there's not ONE Asian American woman listed.

—Join us! On December 19th at 5:30pm, we’re teaming up with the Broad Room for a kickass live event. We’re celebrating female spies because feminists are intelligent, cunning, funny, and—sometimes—super sneaky. Get your tickets here!
