âThey say, âMaxine, please donât say impeachment anymore.â And when they say that, I say, 'impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment.'â

Representative Maxine Waters and the Squad (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Talib, Ayanna Pressley) have been calling for President Trumpâs impeachment for months. With the bombshell developments surrounding the recent whistleblower complaint against Trump, things are finally being set in motion, as Speaker Nancy Pelosi has opened an official impeachment inquiry. What else could we be talking about this week?

Things are happening. Fast. Last Thurs, a US intelligence officialâs whistleblower complaint was released to the public, alleging Trump and his attorney Rudy Giuliani pressured Ukrainian officials to investigate Joe Biden and his son. (Trump claims, with no evidence, that Biden pressured Ukraine to drop a criminal probe against a company for which his son sits on the board.) At the center of the complaint is a phone call with Ukraineâs President Zelensky, on which Trump seems to have pressured Zelensky to investigate Biden or risk losing hundreds of millions in funding from the US.. The call transcripts were concealed by White House staffers, but eventually released thanks to Trumpâs sheer arrogance and refusal to see his corrupt dealings for what they are. TLDR: The Prez of the United States tried to get a foreign country to investigate a 2020 political rival and withheld military aid as leverage.
Even moderate Dems have begun voicing support for impeachment. But weâre only at the start line. Whatâs begun is just a formal inquiry, and even if the House ultimately votes to impeach Trump, we still have to get through the Republican-led Senate. But the more viable impeachment becomes, the more Americans start to view it favorably. Polls now show that close to half of Americans support an impeachment inquiry, and with media scrutiny intensifying and pathways to investigate Trump opening, those numbers are only expected to rise. In the meantime, the House will be subpoenaing witnesses and strategizing whether to focus solely on Ukraine or broaden their inquiry to more of Trumpâs crimes.
Letâs follow Auntie Maxine and the Squad in keeping up the impeachment momentum by shouting our support for the inquiry from the rooftops.
âCall your representatives! Especially the ones who havenât yet signed on to support the impeachment inquiry. Demand they get aboard. Right now, there are still about a dozen House Democrats holding out.
âAttend this rally! Its focus is Trumpâs atrocities at the border, and a protest against ICE. Everything we can do to push back against Trump is fuel to our resistance fire.
